In the spirit of this month’s Women We Love focus,
we interviewed our boss, whom we love.
Cathy Zion President and publisher of Today’s Woman,
Today’s Transitions, and Today’s Family magazines
Who she is: I am a woman who believes deeply about
issues of fairness and equality that affect not only women,
but all people.
Pet Peeve: People who are apathetic and complacent
about what to do to improve the community or their own lives.
Breaks her heart:
To see children or animals mistreated.
Drives: 2008 red Cadillac CTS
Shops: SteinMart, Von Maur, and Macy’s
Must have every day: Diet Coke at lunch. It is my pick-me-up for the afternoon.
Office touchstone: Digital picture frame with family photos and a photo of my mom.
Makes her laugh: My grandkids — Allison, 9, Erin, 8, and Matthew, 7.
Favorite dessert: Peanut butter pie.
People don’t know about her: I enjoy country music — George Straight and Alan
Jackson. And I am also a huge Barry Manilow fan.
Prized family possession: The large silver tray with the signatures of the officers
engraved on it that my grandfather received when he retired in 1959 as vice president
of General Motors. It is in my dining room.
Women would be healthier if: They ate less and exercised more.
Reading: The press proof of Tori Murden’s book — Here There Be Sea Monsters.
Would like to meet: Robin Roberts of Good Morning America.
No one is better than I am in: Bringing people together to make something happen.
Childhood dream: To be a boss.
This month, Cathy will be recognized by The Center for Women
and Families as one of the 2008 Women of Distinction, which is awarded
to women who have helped advance the issues of women and families in the community.
