What’s She Doing Right?
We went in search of some of the best dressed women of Derby to dissect the
science to pulling together a head-turning outfit.

A The hat doesn’t overpower the dress. Its size is
appropriate which strikes a nice balance from top to bottom.
B Great connection in colors between the dress and shoes.
Good continuity ties all the pieces she is wearing together.
Casey isn’t afraid of color and she knows how to use it to
her best advantage. Tip: Know your colors and what will
best accentuate you — especially if you choose bold colors
such as red. The wrong shade can zap all of the pizzazz out
of your Derby garbs.
C The purse is a good choice because it is more neutral;
therefore, it doesn’t clash with the rest of the outfit. She
uses color where she wants the most dramatic effect.

A The hat is understated for a Derby
hat which is smart when you have a dress with a
complex print.
B The dress doesn’t fall into the standard Derby style,
but its unconventionality is what makes it appealing.
Tip: No matter what you wear, you’ve got to have the
confidence to carry it off well or it means nothing.
Elizabeth doesn’t seem to have a problem in this area.
She is going for something fun yet puts her own spin
on it.
C The chandelier earrings are a pleasantly
unexpected addition.
D Well-manicured toes — a must for shoes that
expose this much of your feet.
