Dr. Gerald Verdi
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
In 2001 Susan Mattingly’s life was going along fine. Then, just before she turned 50,
she was diagnosed with breast cancer and her life changed. Enduring four
chemotherapy sessions and over 35 radiation treatments, she continued to
work everyday. The treatments were hard on her. She was depressed,
had gained 50 pounds, and felt that she had aged “traumatically.”
“Having cancer wasn’t my choice,” Susan says. “I needed to feel like I was
back where I was before the cancer.”  Susan began researching cosmetic
surgery. In looking for the best cosmetic surgeon in the area, she found
that Dr. Verdi’s name “popped up every time.” She had friends who had
had procedures done by Dr. Verdi and liked their “natural” results, so she scheduled
an appointment for a consultation. Dr. Verdi explained the procedures with an expertise
and care that put Susan at ease. She was ready for her new look.
She wanted to tighten up the “turkey gobbler” under her neck which she says is a
family trait, and chose to have a V-lift (modified face lift) by Dr. Verdi. She decided to
schedule and go through with the procedure without telling her family and friends.
Susan feels there are a lot of reasons to undergo cosmetic surgery. “I needed to do
this for me,” she says. Susan says her choice to have cosmetic surgery not only
addressed her body, but her mind and spirit as well, which she feels is very important.
“It was so, so worth it,” she says. “It has helped me to let go of my fears, erase the
slate, and start all over again.” Susan says the cosmetic surgery was virtually painless
and was an easy thing for her to do. “I was pleasantly surprised,” she says. She feels
good about herself, has started a new job that she loves, is losing weight, and may
even consider another cosmetic procedure in the future.
“I love Dr. Verdi! His passion for what he does is a great
benefit to people like me,” she says. Since having the
V-lift with Dr. Verdi, she says she looks as if she just woke
up from a “good, refreshing nap.” She says she is so
thankful she did it and can’t believe that something so
simple could do so much. With her new look, Susan has
regained her inner strength. “I’m back where I was before
cancer,” she says. “I feel youthful, rested and ready to go!”
Susan Mattingly believes there are more reasons than
vanity to have plastic surgery. After having cancer, she
wanted to feel like herself again.

Salon Delonjay
Changing the length, style and texture of your hair without going through the
conventional methods is easier than you may think with the convenience of hair
extensions. Jackie McRae, a client of Salon Delonjay stylist Amanda Puckett, was ready
to switch from her shoulder-length hair to longer locks for varied styling options. “I think
that having the versatility of longer hair reflects the many facets of a woman’s
personality,” says Jackie. The process, which generally takes one to three hours, is
simple.
Amanda has the client come in for a consultation to determine how many hair strands
will be needed. The extensions, which are European human hair strands, are pre-
bonded with a protein-based substance to hold the hair in place and prevent damage
to the hair.  “This method will protect your natural hair. When you use glue or acrylic to
bond the hair extensions, it can damage some of your hair when you remove the
extensions,” says Amanda.
Extensions last for three to five months depending on how fast your hair grows. Since
the extensions are human hair, you can wash, blow dry, color and perm it as usual. But
hair extensions, says Amanda, aren’t just for people who want longer hair; she has
several clients who use them for added volume. Hair extensions come in 81 colors,
three textures and designs.
Salon Delonjay offers several different types of extensions. Amanda prefers the same
type Paris Hilton wears - Dreamcatchers. Prices range from $10 - $14 a strand based
on the number of strands needed. “Most people go anywhere from 80 to 200 pieces
depending on the thickness of your hair and the length you want to achieve,” she says.
Jackie has 150 pieces and couldn’t be any happier with the results. “I love it! I can wear
it up, pull it back or wear it down…I don’t have to wear it the same way everyday.”
Katie Burke, makeup artist and hairstylist for Salon Delonjay, put the finishing touches
on Jackie’s new look. She applied concealer underneath her eyes, smoothed on a
tinted moisturizer to eliminate dryness followed with foundation. For a natural glow,
Katie used a color combination of bronzes and browns on her face and a peach shade
for her lips.
Besides hair extensions, Salon Delonjay offers many other salon and spa services. For

Advanced Implant & Perio
I grew up in Green County where they don’t put fluoride in the water,” says Cathy
Strange, 53. “So even though I had a big smile, my teeth were very brittle.”
As a result, Cathy had to endure multiple dental procedures over the years. She had
been through several root canals and crowns, which left her with different colored
teeth. “No matter what they never seemed to match,” she says. Several of her molars
were missing entirely, making it difficult to eat the variety of food she wanted.
Since Cathy worked in sales, she was all too aware of how her smile looked. “I always
noticed people’s teeth because I was always so self-conscious about mine. It makes me
almost cry when I think about it,” she says.
Three months ago, Cathy had to make yet another trip to the dentist and was told she
had two abscessed teeth. Since almost all of her original teeth were gone, her dentist
told her it was time to look into other options. Cathy decided it was time to visit the
Advanced Implant & Perio, where she had been treated by Dr. Schroering nine years
ago for her successful dental implants. Since she was so happy with her previous
experience it was an easy choice to return for more extensive treatment.
Dr. Schroering and his professional team immediately put her at ease. After a full
consultation, Cathy decided to have all of her teeth replaced with the All-on-4
procedure which offers permanent and immediate results by maximizing the use of
available bone. Cathy says the procedure was a cinch and virtually pain-free, requiring
no more than over the counter pain relievers post surgery.
“I was excited because I thought, I am going to have pretty teeth when this is all done,”
she says.
One day after having all of her teeth removed Cathy came back to the office to receive
her temporary replacements. She was afraid they were going to look artificial but was
impressed to find the temporaries looked completely natural, and she was able to eat
virtually anything she wanted because they are so sturdy.
Today, Cathy says she can’t stop smiling, and greets the customers at her store, The
Sweet Tooth, with a renewed enthusiasm. “I love having teeth that are all the same
color,” she says. “I’m not self-conscious about my teeth anymore, plus, now I can eat
whatever I want!”
Cathy is so pleased with her experience at the Advanced Implant & Perio that she
volunteers her time to talk to new patients to help put them at ease. And she has one
bit of advice that she tells each person: “Don’t wait. The only regret that I have is that I
didn’t get it done sooner.”
Dr. Schroering and Dr. Parrish are some of the leaders in this newer technique. They
lecture and train doctors who want to incorporate this into their surgical practice. They
have performed more of these procedures than anyone in the United States.

Dr. Julene Samuels
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
As a mother of four, Angela Williams, 33, lives a busy life. She had no trouble losing
weight after her pregnancies with a combination of diet and exercise, but there was one
part of her body she could not fix- the extra skin around her stomach. The skin had lost
its elasticity and was covered in stretch marks from the pregnancies.
Angela felt self-conscious about her stomach even though her family told her she
looked fine. She didn’t feel comfortable wearing certain clothes because the skin made
her look overweight, and she avoided going to the pool with her children. Even though
she was unhappy, Angela wasn’t sure she wanted to have a tummy tuck because she
was afraid the surgery was going to be painful. After talking to her husband about her
feelings, she decided to see Dr. Samuels for a consultation.
“I don’t like to go to the doctor that much,” Angela says. “I’m kind of a shy person. But
when we walked through the door, the office was so beautiful and the staff was so
friendly, I felt comfortable. I felt like I was at home.”
Dr. Samuels put Angela at ease, explaining the procedure
to her in detail. By the end of the meeting, Angela was
confident she had chosen the right doctor and was ready
to proceed. She scheduled her surgery that same day.
“Dr. Samuels, as a plastic surgeon, is an excellent
professional, but also as a human being she’s lovely.
You feel that she really cares for you. When I left the office,
all of my worries and fears were gone.”
Today, Angela feels better than ever, and knows she made
the right decision to have the surgery.
“It changed my life 100 percent,” she says. “I recovered
my self-esteem that had been totally lost.”
The recovery time was not as difficult as Angela thought
it would be. She only had to take pain medication and
sleeping aids for a few days after surgery, and she was up
and moving almost immediately. Angela was ready to begin
her new life and didn’t want to waste any time- she went
shopping for a new wardrobe to show off her great new curves!
“It’s amazing,” Angela says. “Right now I can wear anything. I feel very comfortable with
myself. Now I can look in the mirror and I can’t believe it. She did an amazing job. I will
definitely recommend Dr. Samuels and her staff to anyone.”
Angela Williams is happy with her results from her tummy tuck performed by Dr.
Samuels.

Dr. Wilhelmi -USA
For Shannon Eddington, 31, a recent trip to Cancun was perfect thanks to her recent
breast augmentation surgery.
“Going on vacation this time, I was finally able to wear the swimsuits I had always
wanted to wear,” the Louisville native said. “I have received so many compliments.
They are now the perfect size. I cannot believe how great they look.”
Eddington gives credit for her results to her plastic surgeon Dr. Bradon Wilhelmi..
“I have always wanted to do it to boost my self confidence. It just took time to find the
right doctor,” Eddington said. “From the first time I met Dr. Wilhelmi, I loved everything
about him. He made me feel at ease, he was very polite and my overall experience with
him has just been wonderful. The day I had my surgery, he gave me his cell phone
number to call in case I needed anything after I went home. He said I could call any
time, day or night.”
For Dr. Wilhelmi, this level of service is the standard of care for his practice. His
patients’ needs always come first. While he performs a wide variety of plastic surgery
procedures, breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic plastic surgery
procedure that he performs.
He brings a unique perspective to his plastic surgery practice at University Surgical
Associates because not only is he a plastic surgeon, he also is the Chief and Professor
of Plastic Surgery at University of Louisville. As a nationally renowned academic
surgeon, he stays at the forefront of plastic surgery techniques and advances to impart
this knowledge upon the next generation of plastic surgeons, as well as his patients.
“Not only do we perform plastic surgery, we regularly lecture and publish scientific
articles to teach others around the world about our cutting-edge plastic surgery
research and techniques,” said Dr. Wilhelmi, who is board certified in plastic surgery.
“Our patients benefit from the advances we achieve in our research. Thus our patients
are afforded the latest, most innovative treatments available.”
For Eddington, a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) with CareTenders with an 11-year-
old son, this means getting the results she always wanted.
“I would do it all over again,” she said. “My results were amazing.”
Dr. Wilhelmi concurs.

Moore Jewelry
Moore Jewelry breathes new life into pieces that have been sitting in the jewelry
box unworn for years. We all have them- pins, brooches, and rings that were
inherited but are out of style; Bracelets or necklaces that were broken and haven’t
yet been repaired.

The experts at Moore Jewelry can give jewelry a complete makeover, and are fully
trained to make custom pieces, repairs, and to clean and set stones.
“        We listen to what our customers have to say and what they hope to end up with.
A visual of the new piece often results from the course of the conversation” says
John Moore. “We then make suggestions about how they can best wear each
piece.”
They can help customers envision their revitalized jewelry by presenting stones in
a new mounting- the possibilities are endless. Whatever the style, be it classic or
contemporary, Moore Jewelry can help make it happen. Rings can be turned into
pendants or slides that can be worn on an omega necklace. Even pins can be
converted into beautiful slides, and stones of all kinds can be placed into new settings.
The work of redesigning and most all repairs are done right in the store, clients can
rest assured that the transformation from idea to tangible item with their jewelry will
delight. Once the new piece is completed, however, Moore Jewelry’s work isn’t done.
“In the process of completing the piece we evaluate the stones,” Moore says. They
examine the weight, color and quality of the gems, and upon redesign provide a
detailed description of the new item for insurance purposes. “In the event that the item
needs to be replaced, an appraisal provides a valuable written record of what the
customer owned.”
Not looking for a redesign? Moore Jewelry provides a variety of other services as well,
including hand and machine engraving, pearl or bead stringing, sizing, and watch
repairs which are done by a full-time watchmaker who has been trained by Rolex. And
as an added bonus, most work usually takes only a few days to
complete!

Ultimate Vein Care
Laura Heinrich had been self-conscious about the varicose vein in
her leg for years. It regularly caused her pain and was accompanied
by a throbbing sensation which worsened when she had to stand or
walk for long periods of time. The poor circulation made Laura’s foot
have a blue discoloration, making her even more embarrassed.
“I always intended to put my one foot hidden behind the other, or
would cross my leg behind the other, so if I was standing in an
elevator and wearing sandals, people wouldn’t stare down and
notice the difference,” she says.
After Laura had her first child, the pain became worse, but she was
reluctant to seek help because she was afraid treatment would be painful and the
recovery time lengthy. Fortunately for Laura, a friend recommend Ultimate Vein Care,
which specializes in minimally invasive procedures. She had a consultation with Dr.
Elizabeth S. Rachel, who took time to explain Laura’s treatment to her, putting her at
ease.
“You immediately get the sense from talking to Dr. Rachel that she’s a highly skilled
physician and surgeon, and that she really knows her field well,” Laura says. “I went in
with some apprehension, and now I’m going to be continuing treatment with her.”
Laura had a problem with a valve at the top of her leg, as determined by the
ultrasound which gives a sophisticated map of where a vein has failed. “Which actually
I found surprising because my pain and the swelling were in my lower leg and ankle, so
I immediately assumed that the problem was somewhere in that vicinity,” she says.
Dr. Rachel recommended endovenus ablation, a treatment that uses laser heat to
cauterize the vein, and only required a small incision at the bottom of Laura’s leg.
Laura was awake for the procedure which she says was painless, and was able to walk
immediately afterwards.
“I could see by the end of the day an improvement,” she says. “When I had my feet
side by side, for the first time ever they were the same rosy-pink color!”
Laura returned to Dr. Rachel for a micro-phlebectomy to remove the remaining part of
the vein in her foot. This treatment only required a needle puncture, and didn’t leave
any scar.
“I feel wonderful,” she says. “I’m wearing regular shoes and I feel like I can go out and
wear capri’s, shorts or skirts, which are something I just never did in the summers!”
Ultimate Vein Care is a division of Surgical Care Associates and offers other services,
such as safe, effective and quick vein care and hair-removal procedures for all
situations. The board-certified vascular surgeons of Surgical Care Associates/Ultimate
Vein Care have a combined experience of more that 55 years in the comprehensive
treatments of varicose veins.

Blades Salon
When Laurie Pfeiffer Lennon was told she would need
chemotherapy, she realized she would lose her long, beautiful
hair. Instead of waiting for it to fall out in handfuls, Laurie
visited Blades to have a hair prosthesis made.  Delinda
Parrott and co-owner Jack Sturgeon have recently introduced
the unique option of creating a hair prosthesis from the client’s
own hair. The hair was cut before she began chemotherapy,
since the treatments affect hair quality.
Delinda began by pulling Laurie’s hair into a series of ponytails, which she
cut and taped to a paper diagram of Laurie’s scalp. The hairline was
marked and a mold was made of Laurie’s head to ensure a perfect fit.
“The hair is sent away to be made into a prosthesis, with the hair being hand-tied and
styled just the way it was before it was cut,” Delinda says. Within 6 to 8 weeks, the
prosthesis arrives. Jack says, “The clients they consult at Blades are extremely excited
because they are unaware that this service is even available”.
And Laurie’s reaction?
“It is absolutely wonderful to have a hairpiece made of my own hair,” Laurie says with a
smile.
Thin hair? Who needs it!
Since thinning hair can be a gradual process, Mary Jo Harrod didn’t realize how thin
her hair had gotten until she saw the dramatic improvement the custom hairpiece from
Blades made.
When Delinda suggested to Mary Jo that a hair prosthesis
could “power up” her hairstyle, she trusted the stylist’s advice.
To fit in with Mary Jo’s busy lifestyle, Delinda and Jack decided
that a synthetic module would be just the thing. It doesn’t have
to be restyled after washing, so it is always ready to go.
Measurements and color considerations were taken and within
two weeks, Mary Jo returned to Blades for a style and make-up
makeover by Callie Ivester, Blades’ makeup artist.
“I love it!” Mary Jo exclaimed. Delinda cut and styled her hair,
easily clipping on the module and created a spunky hairstyle
with a sassy kick-out in the back and gave her a whole new
look.
“It is great that a woman now has this option if she has thinning
hair” Delinda says. “The change really builds her confidence.”
In business for 30 years, Blades Salon and Spa in St. Matthews has 37 stylists to care
for customers’ needs. For the last decade, Jack and Delinda have provided a
confidential, personalized, and compassionate sanctuary in a private area of the salon
for women who have had severe hair loss as a result of heredity, medical conditions,
trauma to the head, stress, anesthesia, burns, or chemotherapy.
In 2001, Jack established Cool Cuts, a Louisville-based, non-profit organization that
provides custom-designed hair replacements to children in crisis, free of charge.  Jack
says, “Providing this service greatly reduces their stress and anxiety.

imi Irving Materials Inc.
Get the luxurious look of marble, slate, or even paving stones with decorative concrete.
And unlike these traditional materials, the possibilities with concrete can be as vast as
the imagination.
“We put all of this money into what color our brick is, what color the mortar is, what
color the inside of a pool is going to be, and paint colors,” says imi/irving materials inc.
of Louisville. “It’s only natural to have a choice with your concrete too.”
Plain concrete patios, driveways, and floors are
easily a thing of the past with the options imi has to
offer. Existing surfaces can be customized with an
acid stain or overlay, which can be stamped with a
selected pattern. Combine both for an even more
unique look. The concrete stamps and acid stains are
available in a variety of patterns and colors, and
can create the natural look of multi-colored stones.
Even the finish is customized, with high gloss, low
gloss, and matte finishes to choose from.
“Sometimes if you have a fractured slate-looking slab, you don’t want the finish to be
shiny because it’s not a natural look,” says imi. “You just want a matte finish to make it
look like you went out and picked these stones and set them individually yourself.”
Decorative concrete is also beginning to make its way into homes. imi can help you
design an original floor and customize the color to match the existing décor.
Monogrammed initials or favorite team logos can be added for a customized basement
or garage floor.
Many local establishments have been using decorative concrete for years. “A lot of
people in restaurants and businesses are standing on concrete and don’t even realize
it,” imi says. The Clarksville Wal-Mart, newer Kroger stores, Chili’s at Hikes Point, and
Whole Foods on Shelbyville Road all have customized decorative concrete. Decorative
concrete curbing is also sweeping the city in commercial and residential areas, creating
beautiful and unique, yet durable and easy to maintain areas.
“It’s getting to be more and more in demand” imi says. “People see it, they love it, and
they want it!”
Due to increasing demand, imi currently offers seminars to contractors throughout
Kentucky and parts of Southern Indiana on the art of decorative concrete, in addition
to offering a selection of 12 stamp patterns for rental and a variety of colors for
purchase. Decorative concrete tools are also available.

Four Seasons Sunrooms
Roxanna and Paul Meers knew they wanted to add a
sunroom to their home, and after having a consultation with
Four Seasons Sunrooms, it was easy to make the decision
to move forward. “There wasn’t any reason to go anywhere
else!” Roxanna says.
Not just any sunroom would do. The couple wanted an
addition that seemed like a natural extension to the existing
structure and looked like it had always been a part of their
home. Four Seasons came out to the property to do a visual
inspection, taking video of the exterior. From this they created a computer model of the
home that included the sunroom addition. Roxanna and Paul were impressed. This was
going to be a complete custom job, and any modifications they wanted were easy to
pre-plan and visualize.
“When we decided to put a sunroom in we knew we wanted one with a wooden interior,”
says Roxanna. “Then we found this one. It just filled all the expectations we wanted and
when they got it built it was even nicer than we thought it would be.”
The materials were cut on site, and exterior brick was ordered to match the existing
brick exactly. “If you didn’t know this was just built, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was
new by looking at it,” Roxanna says. She was prepared to lose the landscaping in her
yard due to the construction, but they were able to work around it, not even damaging
a shrub. “They were that careful and caring,” she says. She was thrilled with the
attention to detail Four Seasons gave her sunroom.
Roxanna says the sunroom has become their favorite room in the
house, where they now spend most of their time. They opted to have
the lower half of the room made solid which allowed them to have cable
and climate control installed. As a result, they enjoy their sunroom year
round, watching movies, playing cards and enjoying the view no matter
what the weather. “It’s the best of all seasons with air conditioned
comfort and without the bugs!” Roxanna says.

The couple aren’t the only ones enjoying the new addition. “We have
one friend who will come over to see us but she’s not coming to see us-
she’s coming over to sit outside in our room!” Roxanna says with a
               laugh.

“It’s absolutely an integral part of our home. We wanted a comfortable extension and
we got it. I don’t think we could do without it.”

Advanced Dermatology
Five years ago Diane Buss’ daughter was married. When Diane, 69, saw photographs
of herself from the occasion, she had a realization. “I looked at the pictures and
thought, ‘I need to slow down this aging process!’”
Diane had been through a lot in the past few years. She survived lung cancer, and two
years ago, her husband passed away. When they had discussed her interest in
enhancing her features, he was encouraging because he wanted her to be happy.
When she finally did make the decision to visit her daughter, Dr. Tami Cassis, at
Advanced Dermatology, Diane says “I did it for my husband too.”
With so many enhancing options available, Diane asked several questions. Dr. Cassis
was happy to go over all of the pros and cons of the procedures available during a free
consultation, and gave her additional information to take home so Diane could make
an informed decision.
Diane knew she didn’t want to have a facelift, and the procedures Dr. Cassis offered in
cosmetic dermatology seemed like a good alternative. She decided to have a chemical
peel and a non-surgical procedure to fill the lines on her face via injectables.
“Having been a teacher I had developed a pretty good scowl,” she says with a laugh.
Within three visits to the office, Diane was finished. First she had a chemical peel; a
procedure which removes all of the dead skin from the surface of the face, revealing
the newer, more radiant skin beneath.
To enhance the lines on her face, different  FDA-approved injectables were used. The
nasolabial folds (creases from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette
lines (creases from the corners of the mouth to the chin) were treated with Radiesse, a
new injectable which lasts up to a year. Collagen-based Juvederm was layered on top
of these injections to add a softer look. For the small lines above Diane’s lip, Dr. Cassis
used Restylane. This is a common area for injectables, since lipstick tends to bleed
into these lines.
The final area Diane had treated were the elevens, which are the lines between the
eyebrows at the top of the nose. For these Dr. Cassis used Botox, which unlike a filler,
does not add volume to the skin. Instead, it relaxes the muscle so new lines can’t be
formed.
Diane says she couldn’t be happier with the results.
“I feel good about the way I look. I feel rejuvenated! I used to use a lot of makeup, and
now I hardly use any.” But she isn’t just happy with the results for herself she says. “I
have two little grandchildren, and now I’m the best I can be for them too.”

Dr. Amy Farnsworth
ORTHODONTIST
Our goal is to create terrific smiles through exceptional orthodontic treatment in a
welcoming, fun, caring, and state-of-the-art environment,” says Dr. Amy Farnsworth,
who has been providing orthodontic care in Louisville since 1995.
Not only does Dr. Farnsworth offer the best in cutting edge treatment, she has an
experienced team who work in both area locations. “Everyone in my office has several
years of experience and many team members have been with me since I began
practicing. My team and I work together to give you a beautiful, healthy smile and
enhanced self-image.”
Dr. Farnsworth is the first and only provider in Kentucky to offer SureSmile, a
revolutionary treatment in orthodontics which can drastically reduce treatment time and
office visits. “With conventional orthodontics treatment can take up to two years,” says
Farnsworth. “With Sure Smile we’re showing a reduction in treatment time by as much
as 40 percent.”
Using SureSmile, patients’ teeth are scanned approximately five to six months into
treatment to provide a 3-D image. From this image Dr. Farnsworth is able to plot the
movement of every tooth via computer simulation to their final positions, providing an
immediate comprehensive view of treatment. Upon her approval, the plan is sent to
Sure Smile headquarters, where the wires are bent by the precision capability of robots.
As a result, patients experience less discomfort from fewer wire adjustments and
changes, and teeth are moved in a more direct path to their target positions,
introducing a whole new level in precision orthodontics.
Dr. Farnsworth offers Invisalign for patients who do not want to wear conventional
braces.  Though not for everyone, it can be a wonderful alternative for certain bite
problems in adults and teens. Invisalign is a total treatment plan that uses clear plastic
aligners to move teeth instead of conventional wire braces. Caring for teeth is easy
with the removable aligners, which can also be taken out for special occasions.
“The big advantage for patients is that when the aligners are in, other people don’t
even know they’re wearing them,” says Farnsworth.
The average treatment time with Invisalign is one year, with office visits every six
weeks. Patients are typically given three sets of aligners with each visit, and
conveniently, can be given more if the patient is going to be out of town. And not to
worry - if an aligner is lost, Dr. Farnsworth can reorder a set since all stages of
treatment are maintained on computerized records. Patients can view their records
online at the office website to see their progress and initial treatment photos. The
website also features an office tour, staff introductions, and information about available
treatments.

Body Allure
Kentuckiana’s Premier LipoDissolve Center
Cheryl Wimsett had lived most of her life with a gut she couldn’t get rid of. She had
tried everything from different diet plans to various exercise routines, all to no effect.
“Even when I was at my skinniest I always had that abdomen sticking out!” she says.
Cheryl says her mother had the same problem, and concluded that the trait must be
hereditary.
She decided that in order to get rid of her gut surgery was going to be required, but did
not consider liposuction as a viable option. “I own my own company so I didn’t have the
time to take off to heal,” Cheryl says. She had read about a procedure called
Lipodissolve  which seemed like a good option, but at the time the procedure was only
available in Europe. Years later, when she heard Dr. Michael Samuel offered the
procedure at Body Allure, she didn’t hesitate to make an appointment.
“I called right away and had my consultation,” she says. “I just wanted to get this
stomach off of me! Dr. Samuel made me feel really comfortable, and any questions I
had he took the time to answer them and put me at ease.”
Dr. Michael says this is an important part of the process.
“My brother, Steve, and I take great pride in being directly involved with our patients
throughout their entire treatment process,” he says. “We realize that with each patient
comes individual goals and needs, and we are extremely excited to be a part of each
patient’s journey to achieve them.”
Lipodissolve is a non-surgical treatment that reduces fat deposits in the body through
a series of micro injections. The treatment is ideal for problem areas such as the
thighs, hips, waist, chin, arms and abdomen- areas which are typically more difficult to
lose unwanted fat. The injections are a mixture of two naturally occurring chemicals
that dissolve fat cell content which is then eliminated from the body through its natural
processes. Patients receive a series of four treatments over a period of six months.
The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, making it easy to fit into a busy
schedule. Cheryl says she liked Body Allure’s flexible hours too, which made it easy for
her to stop by after work, and appreciated how courteous and accommodating the
team is. “It’s not like a regular doctor’s office,” she says. “It’s more like a spa
atmosphere.”
Cheryl says she couldn’t be happier with the results. She has lost two inches off of her
stomach, and has gone down an entire pant size. “This has been life-changing for me,”
she says. “When diet and exercise can’t get rid of the fat, I’m glad there’s an alternative
now that is available that won’t make me miss out on my day!”

Splendid Skin
Cheryl Butler, 46, sunbathed regularly until she began to notice the effect it was having
on her skin.  “I had developed sun spots on my face and all over my legs, arms and
back…I wanted to do something to get rid of the sun damage, because it just didn’t
look healthy,” she says.  Then she heard about Photo Genesis, Laser Genesis and
Titan – three laser skin rejuvenation treatments offered at Splendid Skin Medspa.
Photo Genesis is a light-based procedure that targets the red and brown pigments on
the epidermal layer of the skin, says Michelle Ritchey, nurse practitioner at Splendid
Skin Medspa.  The laser procedure treats rosacea, brown spots, uneven skin tone,
and hyperpigmentation.  “It selectively heats pigmented areas on the skin.  The heating
of these pigmented cells causes the therapeutic effect and destroys some or all of the
pigmented areas of the skin,” says Ritchey.
The Laser Genesis procedure stimulates collagen production through gentle heating of
the mid-dermal layer.  Heat is generated in the dilated capillaries to reduce redness.  It
is an effective treatment for fine-line wrinkles and to diffuse excessive redness.  Laser
Genesis also helps manage large pores, uneven skin texture and scars.  The Titan
procedure, says Ritchey, is designed to tighten the deep dermal layer.  “It heats the
deep dermis causing an immediate collagen contraction with the existing fibers and
helps to stimulate long-term collagen production and collagen remodeling.”
Cheryl had never tried a laser procedure and was skeptical.  “I had used different
products, some by salons and some from drug stores that claimed to help fade sun
spots and maybe if you used it for three months, you may see a very slight change, but
I never saw anything.”
However, after her first consultation with Splendid Skin Medspa aesthetician Amy
Quinn, Cheryl was willing to give it a try.  “Amy spent about an hour just explaining in
detail about the lasers and skin care regimen.  She was very knowledgeable.”  After
her first Photo Genesis treatment, Cheryl says she saw results within an hour.  “I was
so happy that I decided to have the Photo Genesis treatment done on other areas of
my body where there was sun damage.”
Eventually, Cheryl began using all three laser procedures on her face.  She has had a
total of four treatments, but the number of treatments needed, says Ritchey, varies
depending on the condition of the client’s skin.  Side effects are minimal and usually
cause mild warmth that vanishes within an hour or two along with some redness.  All
laser procedures are administered by trained professionals at the spa.
In conjunction with the laser treatments, Cheryl also uses the TNS Hyperpigmentation
System by Skin Medica which includes a cleanser, moisturizer, toner, sunscreen,
epiquin micro (a hydroquinone skin lightening agent), TNS recovery complex, Vitamin C
complex and retinol complex.  Jane Pfeiffer, manager of the spa, says the skin care
system aids in accelerating the results of the treatments.
The goal, explains Ritchey and Pfeiffer, is to educate their clients on the proper way to
care for their skin.  “If we are going to support it (laser skin rejuvenation) with the
technology, then we need to send that person home with all of the products that are
going to be prescription-based and really maximize every opportunity for that treatment
to work.”  Since the first visit to Splendid Skin Medspa, Cheryl says she has changed
her skin care habits.  “I use the skin care kit every morning and every night, limit my
time in the sun and only wear sunscreen, because I don’t want the sun spots to come
back.”
Now in her fourth month of laser treatment, she feels like a new person.  “People will
say, ‘You look younger or better…I am 46 and I had people telling me that I looked like
I was in my thirties.”  She adds, “I am very pleased with the results and I feel more
confident about myself.”
In addition to laser skin rejuvenation, Splendid Skin Medspa offers hair removal,
permanent makeup, mineral based makeup, microdermabrasion, chemical peels,
BOTOX, dermal fillers and massage therapy.

Milestone Wellness
When Annette Bradford, 47, went to the doctor for a physical and was told she had
gained 30 pounds over the last five years, she knew the time had come to do
something about the extra weight.
“That was the last straw,” she says. “My clothes were getting too tight and I refused to
buy the next size up. I knew it was something I could change; it was just a matter of
making myself do it.”
Being a nurse, Annette knew how to live a healthy life, but needed a support system to
help her get back to her old self. When friends told her about the Healthy Solutions
Program at Milestone Wellness Center, she knew the program was exactly what she
needed to change her lifestyle.
“It’s hard to make a true lifestyle change on your own, so we provide a very high level
of accountability and support,” says Trende Reed, co-director of the program.
Annette was assigned a health educator and attended weekly classes at the center.
She learned how to make healthy meals that incorporated plenty of fruits and
vegetables, and learned some new recipes, too. She mixed the entrees available from
Healthy Solutions in different combinations to create delicious meals, and made a
variety of desserts and flavored drinks with the shakes. She even created a fruit parfait
by adding some blueberries.
“The shakes are my favorite part of the whole program!” she says. “You’ve got a lot of
diversity with them. I made a pumpkin shake, which counted for one of the vegetable
servings too.”
She maintained a record of everything she ate in a “little red book,” which she says
helped her to stay on track when she was tempted to deviate from the program. The
book also helped her health educator to know when Annette needed some extra
support.
“They always have something positive to say,” she says. “When you have excuses for
doing something you’re not supposed to do, they are there to point out another way to
go to get you back on track.”
Annette also maintained a regular exercise regimen, burning at least 2,000 calories per
week. She says the exercise made her feel more motivated to reach her goal and
increased her energy, besides being a lot of fun. She has lost a total of 46 pounds on
the program, and has kept it off. “I’m back in a size 10 again!” she says with
enthusiasm.
Milestone Wellness Center offers one of the best exercise facilities in the area, with
more than 170 different classes offered every week. Healthy Solutions participants
receive six free passes upon joining the program.
