Today’s Young Girl Awards
On August 31, Today’s Woman and Kosair Children’s Hospital
named three girls as Today’s Young Girls in conjunction with
the American Girl Fashion Show. They were chosen based on
essays they wrote for the contest.
Winner: Ages 7-9: Amy Leffler, age 9
Amy works on being a good friend, a good citizen through her
many activities. “I believe that giving back to the community is
being a good citizen” she says in her essay. Amy works with the
Salvation Army Angel Tree, the Indiana University Can Drive,
and Girl Scouts. She also is active in her school and sports.
Winner: Ages 10-12: Kaitlin Marie Fisher, age 11
As a leukemia survivor, Kaitlin works hard as a team captain at
Light the Night which raises money for the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society as well as for many other fundraisers. She
said in her essay, “I do these things because I love helping. It is
fun.”
Winner: Ages 13-14: Alex Leddin, age 14
Alex was the chairperson of her church’s backpack drive which
helps with school supplies and collected 300 backpacks for
Eastern Area Community Ministries. She is also active in sports
and music school activities. She said, “…Should it not matter
more how girls help and encourage not only those in their
clique but also those in their community?”
