Our Theme for 2007 -
Live a Beautiful Life

So how does that work?
Especially in the life of someone like me?
I have been thinking of some practical ways
to live a beautiful life.  The person we feature
in this new column lives an extravagantly
beautiful life.  There is nothing wrong with
that.  But we can also live lives that aren't so
opulent but equally beautiful - that is spelled
out in an essay by Lucy Pritchett that
accompanies the article.
I too spent a few minutes thinking about the
things that make my life beautiful. Below is
the list I came up with in a few minutes.
Perhaps if we share these kinds of things, we
will be able to appreciate the smaller things.

Eat cinnamon toast.
Walk outside every day.
Light a candle at dinner.
Give away a bunch of clothes so it is easier to
maneuver in my closet.
Encourage someone in person and
in email every day.
Drink more chocolate milk
(or hot chocolate on a cold day).
Give my kids nightly backrubs
(short but sweet).
Turn off the TV.
Go to the library or bookstore.
Pray at the start and end of every day.
Look at the Ohio River - it is really something.
Call everyone out to look at the stars on
clear nights (even if they grumble).
Run out into the snow on the first snowfall
no matter what time it is.
Play a game without trying to beat someone.
Shop with my mom.
Have someone rub my feet.
Beat my kids at HORSE
(because I still can sometimes).
Text message my husband during his meeting.
Go crazy and host a Masquerade Ball.
Pet an animal every day (I have several to
choose from).
Drop everything and hang with my friends
one day.
Marvel at the full moon.
Greet people I don't know very well with a
smile AND their name (let them figure out
who I am).
Be accountable to my group of friends.
Have tea with Lucy.
Have someone clean out my car.
