Take a fashionable walk on the wild side. From tiger-inspired blouses to zebra-print
jackets, we show you where to start with some help from the staff at the Louisville Zoo.

Day Gardner, Zoo Keeper
What She Does:  “I train orangutans and Sumatran
Tigers in the Islands exhibits.”

The Best Part of Her Job: “Being involved in the
lives of rare and exotic animals and helping to increase
the public’s awareness of them.”

Her Favorite Animal: “Our baby Siamang. It’s amazing to see the similarities between him
and human children as he grows up.”

                          Animals She Works With: The list is quite long: giraffes, fruit bats,
                          elephant shrew, lions, meerkats, naked mole rats, bongos, zebras,
                          woolly monkeys, addax antelopes, and mhorr gazelles.

                          What She Does: “I provide daily care, cleaning, enrichment
                          and behavioral training for the animals I work with. I am also involved
                          in public interaction and help educate visitors about the Zoo’s
                          mission which is ‘to better the bond between people and our planet.’”

The Best Part of Her Job: “It is challenging and entertaining at the same time. I enjoy
being around animals on a daily basis.”

Her Favorite Animal: “The elephant shrew. He is just cute.” And, “He is a hard worker and
easy to train.”

Elaine C. Huddleston, Zoo Registrar
What She Does:  “I assist in development and
implementation of the Zoo’s collection management
policy. I procure and maintain federal, state, and local
permits necessary for the maintenance and transport of
wildlife. I also oversee the animal records to ensure
quality and accuracy for use and development of
husbandry and breeding programs, preparation of
scientific publications and data for cooperative ventures.”

The Best Part of Her Job: “You get to know all the scoop on what’s happening with the
animals in the collection on a day-to-day basis.”
