MAKEOVER your Wardrobe

TOP 10 TRENDS FOR FALL 2006
1. Black Is Back, But It’s Anything But
Basic. Fall is refined with a touch of urban
cool and smoky shades of gray. Two
sides of the season are striking and
somber or layered-up luxe. There’s
drama, bold animal prints, bright patents,
and statement-making shapes.

2. Leggings Are Back! Flashback to the ’
80s with an oversized sweater, belted
tunic, or coatdress. It’s the new way of
looking sophisticated and edgy.

3. Layers, Layers, and More Layers!
Piling it on from head to toe in artful
ensembles (knits upon knits, tees, coats,
vests, tunics, and leggings).

4. The Skinny Jean or Slim Pant – Great
under sweaters, tunics, paired with boots
or chunky high heels to elongate the leg.

5. Blouses/Sweaters – Blouses are
Victorian, white, ruffled, and lacy.
Sweaters are long and fur trim is
everywhere. Tunics and vests are worn
over leggings or jeans.

6. Military Mood – Salute the trend with
brass buttons and buckles on coats,
jackets, and trousers.

7. Dresses and Skirts – The frock of the
season is flirty and feminine. Bubble skirts
and cocoon dresses set a girlish theme
for day or night.

8. Hip to Be Square! Bold Tartan plaids
and Houndstooth motifs are seen in pops
of bright colors and also toned-down
shades of ivory, black, and charcoal gray.

9. Jewelry/Belts – No loss of glitz and
glamour this season as gold-laden jewelry
adds to the disco-worthy vibe. Think big
statement jewelry and big, buckled belts.
10. Most Wanted Extras! Handbags are
supersized (SEE PHOTO AT LEFT), and
shoes are anything but basic. They’re
dramatic in bold animal prints (SEE
PHOTO ABOVE), bright patents, and
statement-making shapes. Heels are high
and sexy, while ankle boots and covered
platforms add a fresh shape to the
season.

MAKEOVER your Weight

I used to look around to see if I was the
biggest person there,” says Linda
Cretella, 49, a math teacher from
Louisville. That’s something she doesn’t
worry about since she went to the
Milestone Wellness Center to join the
Healthy Solutions® Program and lost 40
pounds.
“With the Healthy Solutions® Program,
our goal is to help people lose weight
through behavior modification and
healthier lifestyle changes,” says Trende
Kyser, codirector of the program. “Our
staff is supportive, and the level of
accountability is high.”
As she attended the weekly class, Linda
learned to eat healthy foods every two or
three hours, which increased her
metabolism and helped her to shed the
excess weight. Then she exercised to
burn a minimum of 2,000 calories per
week by playing tennis, walking, and
attending Jazzercise. When her
daughters wanted to order pizza, Linda
would first eat the portion-controlled food
she purchased through the program, plus
vegetables and fruits, then walk the five-
mile roundtrip to the video
store to rent movies after leaving
instructions
for the girls to dispose of any pizza
leftovers before she returned.
“I never cheated on the program because
it would just hurt me,” she says. “But I
always
had plenty to eat and received lots of
support
from the staff in the program. Last
Thanksgiving, the staff helped us plan a
Healthy Solutions®
meal to serve.
“I no longer have to take medication for
high
cholesterol and I still have a triple shake
for
breakfast and one for a snack,” Linda
continues. “Since February, I have
maintained the same weight and my
exercise class has become a fun, social
thing, too.”
When Linda travels around the country,
she always takes her blender and the
delicious shakes, entrees, soups and
snack bars that are
available in the Healthy Solutions®
Program and are loaded with essential
proteins, vitamins and minerals. The food,
which has less fat and sodium than
regular dishes, does not have to be
refrigerated and can be heated in the
microwave.
For anyone wanting to lose weight and be
healthy, Linda suggests being committed,
planning ahead, and making the goal a
priority.
